Strengthening ties between Hungarians and Turks before the war and becoming allies during World War I motivated the two countries to make gestures tha are still visible. One of these is the avenue named after the Hungarian Brothers in the Fatih district of the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul. The street was renamed in 1917 when the Museum Boulevard in Budapest was renamed after Sultan Mehmed V. Although the name of the street changed again since then in Budapest, the originally 30 metres-long avenue, stretching now for hundreds of meters, continued to commemorate  of the World War alliance.
