Aptullah Kuran Library (Bogazici University)

The first Western university of Istanbul was launched with the help of Evangelical Christian Americans in 1863 under the name of Robert College/Robert Koleji, which has been known as  Boğaziçi University since 1971. One of the biggest libraries, the Aptullah Kuran Kütüphanesi ,was designed by Hungarian-originated Sándor Hadi and her wife, Sevinç Hadi. It was opened in 1984. Sándor Hadi was born in 1931 in the Black Sea-region city of Kastamonu to Hungarian parents working as architects in Turkey. He graduated from the Istanbul Technical University in 1961. Aside from the library at the shores of the Bosphorus, his other famous building is the National Reassurance Building / Milli Reasürans Kompleksi in Teşvikiye district, which was finished in 1992. Sándor Hadi passed away at a young age in 1986 in Istanbul. His two children, Tülin and Imre, live in Istanbul.
